Islah is the debut album by BWA rapper Kevin Gates. When asked about why he chose this name for his first album Gates said “ISLAH means to reform, to improve, to make better, and I believe that’s what my first daughter did to me. So I named my first album after my first daughter; because it improved me, it made me better.”
From a look at the tracklist, the first thing you’d notice is that there are no features. From listening to his music you would know that Kevin Gates has grown to become very comfortable doing things alone whether it’s doing time, making moves in the trap or walking a spiritual path and with his first studio album he chooses to embody this aspect of himself by doing the whole thing solo. And it must be said that he did a great job only in the end to give all the praise and glory to God. In his album credits, the only person he thinks is God. It’s always inspiring to watch someone live out the meaning of Frank’s Sinatra’s words “I did it my way”. Big Ups to Kevin Gates for a Job well done:
